Sweden-based Collective Residency for iCoDaCo
The Sweden-based collective of the international project iCoDaCo was hosted at Studio Skaftarp (in the Västra Götaland region) for their next knowledge production residency in March 2025.
The residency’s first community meeting was a dinner with the local professional dancer Stina Nilsson following the Kulturforum, where they met and started conversations with dance artists, dance developers, culture and arts professionals, and curators. They also took part in a jazz dance class led by Gustaf Jönsson, and met the local performers and dance students.
The second community meeting was a walking and biking event with the Studio Skaftarp community. They walked together around a Mill, enjoying the countryside, discussing and learning stories about the coffee culture in Sweden.
The residency at Studio Skaftarp was facilitated in collaboration with Moa Kompani.
The reflection of the collective on their two week residency:
Making connections. Joining all our dots.
Rediscovering each other, feeling for where we are now.
This is the first week as a whole group.
There’s a vibration. Constellation. A constantly shifting, searching entity, trying to engage in different ways of absorbing, moulding, mycelium…
We are all animals but feeling subhuman because they are human? We really need to deal with this. How do we deal with this?
We and the other. When do we speak up? Practice listening. Lean in?
We know this is the honeymoon period and we know the dynamic of the group is emerging.
Btw, what is your definition of community?
Because “african dance” doesn’t exist. Be careful.
Because we’ve been given an invitation to curate…
What’s our curatorial manifest? What are our values?
We’re defying… defining… gravity.
There’s a lot of feelings. Layers upon layers, we’re peeling them away. Digging and unearthing potential. Uncovering…
But also… We’re full of gas! So much excitement! We might explode!
