ARRIVAL
ARRIVAL is a vivid examination of the meeting point between our expectations and what we realistically meet when we arrive at a situation. The piece tries to capture that significant moment when we realise that we have come to meet a person or a place with many preconceptions and expectations and that these might or might not be met by the actual encounter.
The experience is very much influenced by the history with which we meet the moment. How can we respect the history we carry with us, without eliminating the sincere encounter with the moment?
The work is intimate. It invites the performers and the audience to co-exist in a situation where every detail is valuable and precious. Many aspects of the neoliberal and capitalistic work that we live in create a sense that we should all be striving to arrive at some glorious destination. What happens to solidarity and compassion when everybody strives to arrive? If we are in constant strive, would we ever be able to recognise that we have arrived at our destination? And, what is the value of where we are right now if most of our attention goes to where we aspire to be?
ARRIVAL happens in silence, so the performers and the audience, who sit in the round, share an audio experience that is influenced by the time and place in which the performance is taking place. The close setup defines the place and time to which both the audience members and the performers arrive in order to undertake the experience that is ARRIVAL.
