ilDance is seeking a project manager and a company manager to join our team in the coming months. 

The two roles are described separately but can be embodied by one person. Both positions are part-time, and the exact volume of the employment will be discussed with the suitable candidates. We are looking for the right match for our team and understand the importance of structuring these positions in dialogue with the suitable individuals.

The new position/s will commence as early as possible in the first half of 2025 with the exact starting date open to negotiation. We are also open to discussing a gradual employment process, starting with a smaller volume of work and gradually increasing the position. We prioritise the mutual interest to work together, the applicant's level of expertise, previous experience, professional attributes, and the interest in continuing to develop the work of ilDance over practicalities such as immediate availability.

ilDance currently offers salaries higher than the recommendations by the Swedish trade union. The exact salary will be finalised in negotiation with the individual/s.

// ABOUT ilDance //

ilDance is an independent production body which is dedicated to contemporary dance and working from Gothenburg, Sweden. It was founded in 2012 by its directors, Israel Aloni and Lee Brummer, and since then has become one of Sweden's most dynamic and prolific independent dance organisations. 

ilDance activities include:

• Creation and touring of original, rigorous contemporary dance works.

• Initiating, leading and partnering in numerous international cooperation projects which are supported by the Creative Europe program of the European Union. 

• Initiating and facilitating contexts for research and experimentation within and through contemporary dance. 

• Supporting contemporary dance with and by young and emerging artists both across Sweden and internationally. 

• Coordinating and managing activities of Gaga Movement Language across Sweden as Gaga Sweden

ilDance is a body with many organs which are all connected by our devotion to creating and sharing multidisciplinary contemporary art, always with a strong dance dimension, to actively partake in society and the communities with whom we interact. 

We operate as a hybrid model which has been uniquely developed by its directors to ensure our organisation’s contemporaneity and resilience. The creativity, bravery and agility that are evident in ilDance’s choreographic practices, also guide the company’s operative and production methodologies. We, at ilDance, believe that the innovation and flexibility of artists should not be confined within the realm of artistic creation process but can and should also inform the practices of production and management.

Currently there are 7 people employed by ilDance as the core team. Additionally, every year we contract tens of artists and other professionals for projects across Sweden and internationally. 

Both of the positions, which are open for application, can be fulfilled while working remotely. All applicants must hold an EU citizenship or a relevant European work permit.

Working languages: English and Swedish. High proficiency in Swedish is particularly required for the company management role.

// ROLE DESCRIPTIONS //

  • Project manager

    Communication with venues. Communication with technical teams. Communication with artists. Finding and booking spaces (rehearsals, office, etc.) Work scheduling for tours (in communication with ilDance and partners’ teams) Outsourcing and recruitment (tech, IT, composers, designers, etc) Being on-site with the company during tours. Liaising with the hosting organisation/venue before and during tours. Coordinating workshops/classes (logistics and contact with partners) Communication with communicator/ PR about activities/events. Seeking different funding avenues based on project content/context. Writing funding applications (local, national & international).  Reporting to funding bodies and stakeholders. Overseeing projects’ economy. Creating and developing a network of contacts with festivals and venues (to present work). Looking for partners/collaborators/ co-producers for different projects/productions. Negotiating with partners (residency hosts / performance venues / cooperation project partners). Seeking future performance opportunities.

  • Company manager

Overseeing the dynamic in the team - Team intensive meetings, Company weekly meetings, performance reviews. Overview of workflow including but not limited to vacation time and long-term planning. Overseeing ongoing projects. Company overview (timeline, projects, budgets etc) Contracting artists who work with ilDance. Budgets overview (annual budget plan, economy overview for the organisation) Applications writing (for projects and for the organisation as a whole). Attending and representing ilDance at national and international performing arts events Meetings with local, national and international stakeholders and funding bodies. 


APPLICANTS SHOULD POSSES THE FOLLOWING MERITS AND EXPERIENCE:

Fluent in English and comfortable working internationally on a high level of eloquence. Experienced and comfortable working on various online platforms and digital tools (Google Drive, Dropbox, ClickUp etc.) Experience in producing contemporary performing arts and collaborating with large creative teams and casts. Can travel internationally for work. Independence - comfortable working remotely and on their own at times. Proactive - comfortable taking initiative, acting from their own interest and dedication. Confident in large crowds - able to speak publicly and represent/promote ilDance’s work. Knowledgeable and experienced with large international partnerships and collaborations. Experiences with project coordination of Creative Europe projects. Have applied for Nordic international funding (Nordic Culture Point, Nordic Culture Fund, Swedish Institute etc.) Familiar with the Nordic and European contemporary dance sector (festivals, venues, networks) Knowledgeable about cultural policies and funding structures for culture in Sweden.  

Note: we know that many experienced professionals might not have all of the mentioned merits and experiences.
